It was just announced at San Diego Comic-Con, by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, that Guardians of the Galaxy is on its way to Disney’s California Adventure theme park. Disney reports on their official web site, “Beginning in summer 2017, the outrageous and irreverent gang will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! – a comically high-energy, rocking new adventure. Guests will be right in the mix with characters from the blockbuster ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films.

The attraction will be part of an extensive makeover that will be coming to, what is currently, Tower of Terror.

Disney continues to go into detail on the site about the story and the attraction experience by saying, “Deep inside his fortress-like collection, the mysterious Taneleer Tivan (aka The Collector) is displaying his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy. They are trapped in customized display cases, suspended over a vast abyss. Unbeknownst to their unscrupulous captor, the intrepid Rocket has escaped and is enlisting the Collector’s VIP guests for help. Guests board a gantry lift, which launches them into a chaotic and hilarious adventure as they join Rocket in an attempt to break his fellow Guardians out of captivity.”

The addition of Guardians of the Galaxy to the tower is said to include enhanced audio and visual effects to enhance the current experience of the free-fall elevator attraction. Guests will be able to experience unique and random ride profiles. There appears to be a music element involved as well, because Disney is also reporting that, “the rise and fall of the gantry lift will rock to the beat of music inspired by the film’s popular soundtrack.”

The attraction is said to be “an anchor” for a diverse and broad cast of Super Heroes that will develop and come to California over time.
